All the time I hear and sense the following; “It’s just another job to do,” “I’ll get around to it,” or “It won’t happen to me.”.

This poor attitude to cyber security simply invites trouble. While it is an extra workload to consider, and it does require proper time and attention to execute, failing to do so will prove you very wrong on the final point. In fact, with such a lax attitude to security, it may have already happened and you just don’t know it yet!

UK Government figures from April 2018 suggested that over four in ten of all UK businesses suffered a breach or attack in the past 12 months.

Here’s a non-exhaustive list of what is likely to happen if you don’t address cyber security in your business.

  • Loss of data and importantly ‘sensitive data’
  • Loss of access to important business information
  • Business disruption, website, email etc.
  • Reputation damage
  • Loss of customers
  • Loss of jobs

As you can see, the consequences extend well beyond the computer system and can cause very real and long lasting problems for even the most well-established and well-respected businesses.
